What changes for heating, solar, space, costs and handover, with practical checklists for homeowners and developers and the 2027 start dates.
The Future Homes Standard changes the energy and carbon rules for new homes in England, with implementation starting on 24 March 2027. It brings low carbon heating, on-site renewable electricity requirements and updated energy and ventilation guidance. It doesn't require owners of existing homes to remove a working boiler.
The aim is to build homes that can become zero carbon in use as the electricity grid decarbonises, without another energy retrofit to get there. Use the checklists below to turn the standard into decisions about your design, budget and programme.

Planning, pricing and delivering a scheme
Send the plot, the plans and your intended start date. We can explore the layout and the specialist input your scheme needs.
At JSA, we can test where the rooms, roof and equipment fit, and identify the energy and services input your scheme needs. Agree those specialist roles in the appointments. Send us the plot, the plans and your intended building timetable so we can explore the architectural choices while they're still open.
