Anthony's brief was refreshingly bold: take a modest family home and transform it into something extraordinary. Pool, gym, generous living spaces—the full wish list. He'd found us because we had a track record of bringing modernist design to traditional homes without compromising either.
We designed a substantial copper-clad extension that turned heads. Got planning approval. Then Tony asked the question: "If we're being this ambitious anyway, should we just build something completely new?"
Great question. Let's find out.

Cedar Lodge was born from curiosity. The plot made anything possible: substantial, private, wrapped in mature trees. No one overlooking and no conservative neighbours clutching pearls. Just space to explore what happens when modernism doesn't need to hide.
We designed a collection of crisp cuboid volumes wrapped in warm cedar timber slats. Blue slate clad the ground floor walls, creating weight and grounding beneath the timber's warmth. Travertine render and expansive glazing broke up the composition. Part two floors, part three, the building stepped and shifted to create different relationships with the landscape.
Anthony never built Cedar Lodge. Exploring this design helped him realise the original design was exactly right. Sometimes you need to see what's possible to confirm what you already have is perfect.
But nearly a decade later, we're still proud of this design. It doesn't look dated. It doesn't feel like 2016's idea of modern. Good modernism doesn't age—it just is. Cedar, slate, glass, clean lines. These don't go out of fashion because they were never really "in" fashion. They're just...right.
Cedar Lodge proved we could go further if needed. Which meant Anthony could commit to the copper extension with complete confidence.
